What is the opportunity for Cruga Biltong in the U.K.?
Excluding sausage snacks, AC Nielson values the UK retail market for meat snacks at £8-10m and growing 100% annually. With the right merchandising, NPD and marketing, we feel that the category could be much more developed in the next two to three years. What's more we're committed to developing this market by building its brand through online activity, targeted consumer and trade advertising and PR.

Who stocks Cruga Biltong at the moment?
Our customers range from the smallest independent butcher and convenience store, to pub chains and wholesalers, Tesco's, Budgens and Morrisons. Anywhere, in fact, where customers will buy on impulse or for, say, lunchboxes.

Any tips on instore positioning?
Cruga sells better when positioned instore with savoury snacks such as nuts and crisps and also when it is secondary sited with beers and wines.

What Point of Sale is available to retailers?
We offer clip strips, posters and can also offer bespoke solutions.

What about other brand support?
We've been running ads and other trade activity, and we've recently moved into targeted consumer advertising and online activity.

What is the shelf life on Cruga Biltong?
Nine months.

What accreditations do you have?
Cruga Biltong is manufactured in the UK by South Africans and the UK Environmental Directive approves all meat supplies. Cruga Limited is EEC approved (UK MK 026) and BRC approved (Grade A). Our BRC certificate number is 17081.

Are the products truly South African?
Cruga Biltong is being promoted as a mainstream snack and the new healthier alternative to the likes of the potato crisp, however we cannot forget our own origins and the product's proud South African heritage. Whilst the fresh, tender silverside beef is sourced from selected suppliers in the UK and Ireland, we have been producing biltong to our own authentic South African recipe for more than ten years. Many South African expats are loyal to the brand, declaring it as the only Biltong worth buying.
